Various cultural excursions are available to book together with accommodation. Excursions will take place on Saturday, August 22nd, 2009. These excursions are not included in the congress registration fee and are offered for an additional cost.

Excursion reservation deadline is June 22nd, 2009.

Please note that the minimum number of participants on each tour is 10 persons. In case there will be less participants, the tour will be cancelled and tour fee refunded.

TOUR IN TALLINN OLD TOWN

Time: Friday, August 21st, 2009 at 15.00-17.00
Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 9.00-11.00
Duration: 2 hours

The walking tour in Tallinn's old town takes you to the main sights of the historical city center that has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage list since 1997.

During the tour we will pass Toompea Hill where the houses of Parliament are located and visit the viewing platforms to enjoy the panorama of Tallinn and view to the sea and port area. Other sights include Alexander Nevsky Cathedral with its onion domes, the mediaeval defence towers, Tall Hermann and Kiek in de Kök (Peep-into-the Kitchen), Town Hall Square, the Town Hall Pharmacy that has been in business for 500 years and the Town Hall itself (outside viewing) - a Gothic masterpiece of the 13th-14th centuries.
Wandering the cobblestone streets will take you back in time and you will get to know the life in mediaeval Tallinn.

 TOUR TO ESTONIAN OPEN AIR MUSEUM

Time: Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 12.00-14.00
Duration: 2 hours
Transportation: By bus 

The Estonian Open Air Museum was founded in May 1957 in Rocca al Mare. It is set in a magnificent forest park at the seaside, 7 km from the city center and belongs together with the Old Town of Tallinn to the one of the most favourite tourist sights of Tallinn. The museum displays fine examples of Estonian farmhouses and folk costumes that enable you to explore how Estonians lived centuries ago.

During the visit you will have an opportunity to hear more about the Estonian village life and have a look inside the old farmhouses, chapel and windmills. The tour ends in Tallinn's city center.

TOUR TO KADRIORG AND KUMU (Art Museum of Estonia)

Time: Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 12.00-15.00
Duration: 3 hours
Transportation: By bus 

The tour to Kadriorg and KUMU will take you to the Kadriorg park, just a few kilometres outside the city center. During the bus tour you will also pass the seaside area to have a look at Russalka monument, Pirita Monastery and the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds where the famous song festivals take place. On the way to the KUMU art museum the tour will pass the baroque style Kadriorg Castle and the residence of the President of Estonia.

The Kumu (KUnstiMUuseum) Art Museum is a modern multifunctional art building opened in 2006. It is one of the most outstanding cultural projects in Estonia which contains exhibition halls, a lecture hall offering diverse facilities and an educational centre for young visitors and for art lovers. Kumu serves not only as a museum but as a laboratory where diverse ideas emerge and develop. These ideas examine contemporary visual culture and its function in society. During a 1,5 hour tour KUMU building and Estonian Art will be introduced to guests.
The tour ends in Tallinn's city center.

NATURE AND MANORS OF LAHEMAA NATIONAL PARK

Time: Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 10.00-17.00
Duration: 7 hours
Transportation: By bus 

Lahemaa National Park park is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Finland, 40 km east of Tallinn. It was founded in 1971 and its territory today is 112 000 hectares.
Lahemaa means the  “Land of Bays”, though its not just the stunning coastline that makes it worth a visit. You will also find quiet fishing villages, beautiful historic manor houses from 18th-19th centuries, plenty of wildlife and inviting forest trails.

The tour to Lahemaa includes visit to Palmse Manor, Käsmu village and lunch at the Viitna Tavern, where traditional Estonian food is served in the old-fashioned interior. After lunch we will visit Sagadi Manor House Complex, dating back to the 18th century. Today 17 of the estate’s buildings have been restored and in conjunction with the main building there is Forestry Museum.
The tour ends in Tallinn's city center.

Cancellation and Changes

All changes and cancellations should be submitted in writing to Frens Conference Services: secretariat@frens.ee. Your cancellation will be confirmed in writing.
Excursion fees will be refunded in case the cancellation is made before July 8th, 2009. There will be no refund for cancellations made after July 8th, 2009. In all cases, payment-handling costs will be deducted from the amount of refund. All refunds will be processed after the Congress.
